Get involved

Three ways to be part of it

Become a member

Choose an Annual Family membership (you, your spouse, parents and children) or an Annual Single membership — each carries one vote. Any Tallahassee resident aged 18 or over with a connection to, or interest in, Tamil can apply, and the Executive Committee approves new members. Write to us for the current dues.

Volunteer

Cook for a festival, run the sound desk, take photographs, or help set up and clean up — nothing here happens without volunteers. Volunteering also counts: to stand for the Executive Committee, you or your spouse need to have helped at four or more Mandram events in the last three years.

Common questions

Before you write to us

Do I have to speak Tamil to join?

No. Under our constitution, any Tallahassee resident who speaks, reads or writes Tamil, has Tamil heritage, or simply has an interest in the language or culture can become a member. Events run in a comfortable mix of Tamil and English.

Do I need to be a member to attend an event?

Most of our celebrations are open to anyone who would like to come, though some have a per-family contribution towards food and venue costs. Members are notified first and usually pay less.

Who can join TTM Tamil Palli?

Children of members and non-members alike, with the same curriculum and the same fees for everyone. Classes teach spoken and written Tamil, follow the Leon County school calendar, and may be held in person or online. Write to us for the current fee and class times.

I have just moved to Tallahassee. Where do I start?

With us — that is exactly what the Mandram is for: a common meeting ground for Tamil families in Tallahassee. Come along to our next event, or send us a message and we will help you meet people.

Are donations to the Mandram tax deductible?

The Mandram is a non-profit, non-political organisation. For whether a particular donation is tax deductible, please ask our Treasurer.

When does a membership year run?

From 1 January to 31 December. Dues paid at any point in the year cover that calendar year, so it is worth joining early.
